This project investigates the role of histone-modifying enzymes in cardiac hypertrophy, focusing on the interaction between class IIa histone deacetylases and the protein ENIGMA. The goal is to understand how these interactions regulate heart cell growth and potentially contribute to heart failure.
A variety of cardiovascular disorders provoke the heart to enlarge through hypertrophic growth of cardiomyocytes, resulting in heart failure and sudden death.
Based on in vivo and in vitro models of cardiac hypertrophy, it is apparent that histone-modifying enzymes act as key regulators of cardiac growth.
