ENSYNC aims to create a synthetic cell that can evolve by producing and replicating functional RNA structures within lipid vesicles. The project focuses on developing a system for directed evolution, enabling the synthetic cells to adapt and proliferate based on genetic variations.
Can we construct a cell from non-living matter?
In search for answers, bottom-up synthetic biology has successfully encapsulated functional sets of biomolecules inside lipid vesicles, yet a “living” synthetic cell remains unattained.
