This research aims to deepen the understanding of epigenetic regulation using a plant model system. By studying vernalization, it seeks to uncover how environmental factors influence gene silencing and develop a predictive model of the underlying mechanisms.
We intend to achieve a step change in our understanding of the mechanistic basis of epigenetic regulation.
We will capitalize on a plant epigenetic silencing system, vernalization, which has many features that allow the complete dissection of different facets of epigenetic regulation.
In addition, the silencing is quantitatively modulated by the environment enabling dissection of how external cues mediate epigenetic silencing.
