This project aims to provide a nuanced historical perspective on Europe from 1815 to 1914, emphasizing the complexities and fragilities that shaped its development. It seeks to challenge simplistic narratives of progress by examining the interplay of political, cultural, and social tensions during this period.
The point of departure of this project is that a good part of the present deficit of legitimacy of European institutions emerges from a deeply ahistoric view of Europe s past.
Consequently, there is an urgent need for a more realistic history that rejects any teleological understanding of Europe as a self-propelling project on steady march towards a predetermined goal.
