This project aims to develop a new measure of Environmental Sensitivity in early childhood to assess how sensitive children respond to different parenting styles. It combines developmental psychology with molecular genetics to explore the relationship between sensitivity, temperament, and parenting quality.
Parenting is one of the strongest, most robust and consistent predictors of child development.
Although parenting is important for all children, a substantial number of studies provide evidence that some children are more negatively affected by harsh parenting than other children.
More recently, it has been shown that some of these “vulnerable” children also benefit more from supportive parenting: they are generally more sensitive to their rearing environment.
