This project aims to decode how neurons in the mammalian cortex process sensory information using optogenetics and computational methods. It focuses on understanding the encoding strategies of neural populations in the mouse somatosensory cortex through advanced statistical analyses.
A major challenge in neuroscience is to understand how neurons code information.
Optogenetics techniques provide the opportunity of controlling neuronal activity with high temporal and spatial resolution and thus testing causally the role of a specific encoding strategy.
