This project evaluates the safety and effectiveness of oral anticoagulants in preventing thrombotic disorders by incorporating genetic testing into treatment protocols. It aims to determine if knowing a patient's genetic profile can improve dosing accuracy and reduce the risk of complications.
The effectiveness of treatment with oral anticoagulants in the prevention of thrombotic disorders is well established, but these drugs are potentially dangerous because of their narrow therapeutic index.
In Europe three coumarins are used: warfarin, acenocoumarol, and phenprocoumon.
