This project investigates the role of Transposable Elements, specifically LINE-1 retrotransposons, in the human genome. It aims to understand their impact on genomic variability, neuronal development, and cancer by studying new somatic insertions and their consequences.
The present structure of the human genome is largely a result of the activity of Transposable Elements (TEs) or jumping genes.
