This project aims to understand the communication between skeletal muscle and insulin-producing beta-cells in type 2 diabetes. It explores the role of exosomes in this interaction, which may provide insights into diabetes mechanisms and potential therapies.
The worldwide explosion of obesity has resulted in an ever-increasing prevalence of type 2 diabetes (T2D), a non-communicable disease that affects more than 370 million people worldwide. T2D is characterized by insulin resistance with a relative deficiency in insulin secretion.
It is now recognized that there is decreased beta-cell function and mass in T2D but the precise underlying mechanism remains to be determined.
Skeletal muscle accounts for >50% of the total glucose uptake in the post-pran…
