The project investigates the role of smooth muscle cells in atherosclerosis, challenging traditional views of their protective function. It aims to understand the cellular dynamics and gene expression linked to plaque progression in cardiovascular disease.
Atherosclerosis is considered an inflammatory disease caused by the accumulation, modification and immune cell recognition of low-density lipoproteins in the arterial wall.
