The BioCompatibility Innovation project aims to improve bioprosthetic heart valves by developing a treatment to inactivate harmful xenoantigens. This innovation seeks to reduce calcification and enhance the durability of heart valve replacements, addressing significant health concerns.
Heart valve disease is one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide.
In 2017 around 400.000 patients underwent heart valve replacement.
