This project investigates the relationship between film technology and aesthetics, focusing on color processes throughout film history. It employs digital humanities methods to analyze and crowd-source color data from films, aiming to enhance the restoration and understanding of historical films.
Film is in essence colored light projected onto a screen.
Its aesthetics are thus highly determined by the material properties of film and the optical configuration of the cinematic apparatus.
