This project investigates the FK506-binding protein 51 (FKBP51) and its role in the human stress response. It aims to evaluate the feasibility of developing drugs targeting FKBP51 for stress-related psychiatric disorders.
The FK506-binding protein 51 (FKBP51) plays an important role in the human stress response.
In research funded by my ERC Starting Grant I identified the molecular mechanisms of how a de-repressed FKBP51 mediates stress- and trauma-induced risk for psychiatric disorders in genetically vulnerable individuals, thus validating FKBP51 as a potential drug target for stress-related disorders.
