The project explores the relationship between flat bands in lattice systems and superfluidity, focusing on their potential as high-temperature superconductors. It employs advanced theoretical methods to characterize these systems and aims to establish a comprehensive understanding of their topological properties.
Flat bands allow to increase the critical temperature of the superconducting transition thanksto their high density of states.
However a characterization of the flat bands that support a finitesupercurrent is open.
In some cases a nonzero Chern number, a topological invariant of the bandstructure, ensures a finite superfluid mass density.
This tantalizing relation between topology andsuperfluidity is novel and unexplored.
