This research investigates how flood history affects sediment transport and riverbed structure. By simulating various flood sequences in a controlled environment, the project aims to develop models that improve predictions of sediment movement and flood hazards.
Floods are among the most effective geomorphic force featuring the landscape, and also one of the most hazardous natural phenomena.
The timing of flood events has a major impact on fluvial morphodynamics, river management and flood protection planning, especially under a perspective of climate change, i.e. long drought periods followed by flashy intense floods.
