This project aims to develop methods for accurately mapping biomass changes in tropical forests using satellite data and ground measurements. By establishing experimental plots, it seeks to enhance understanding of carbon stock changes and inform forest conservation efforts.
We know how to map tropical forest biomass using an array of satellite and aircraft sensors with reasonable accuracy (±15-40 %).
However, we do not know how to map biomass change.
Simply differencing existing biomass maps produces noisy and biased results, with confidence intervals unknowable using existing static field plots.
