This project aims to understand the protein quality control system in eukaryotic cells, focusing on how cells manage misfolded proteins. It investigates the roles of molecular chaperones and degradation pathways in maintaining protein homeostasis and preventing aggregation-related diseases.
Proteins need to be correctly folded to carry out their biological function.
Failure to fold leads to aberrant protein conformations that have an increased tendency to aggregate and have deleterious effect on cell viability.
