This research investigates halogen bonding interactions in biomolecules to understand their role in molecular recognition. The project aims to design smart peptides and sensors for detecting environmental pollutants, leveraging halogen atoms' unique properties to enhance biochemical processes.
The focus of this research project will be on halogen bonding, namely any noncovalent interactions involving halogen atoms as electrophilic species (electron density acceptor sites, Lewis acids, halogen bonding-donors).
