The FRICTION project investigates the relationship between seismic faulting and fluid-rock interactions to understand earthquake mechanisms better. It employs a multidisciplinary approach to study how these processes influence fault healing and the potential for new earthquakes in the Earth's crust.
With ca. 50.000 casualties per year and 330 billion USD of damage in this century, earthquakes are among the biggest geohazards on Earth.
