This project aims to enhance our understanding of galaxy formation and evolution through advanced simulations. It will develop tools to model galaxies across various cosmological scenarios, helping to clarify the roles of dark matter and supermassive black holes.
Over the next decade, much effort on major astronomical facilities will be dedicated to large-scale surveys of the galaxy population.
Their aim is two-fold: understanding the origin and evolution of galaxies and their central supermassive black holes, and clarifying the nature of dark matter, dark energy and the process that produced all cosmic structure.
