This project investigates high-energy gamma-ray astronomy, focusing on binary systems and their role in cosmic particle acceleration. It aims to understand the physics behind non-thermal emissions and the formation of relativistic jets from black holes.
The most energetic photons in the universe are produced by poorly known processes, typically in the vicinity of neutron stars or black holes.
The past couple of years have seen an increase in the number of known sources of very high energy gamma-ray radiation from a handful to almost 50, thanks to the European collaborations HESS and MAGIC.
