The GASP project studies gas removal processes in galaxies, particularly focusing on 'jellyfish galaxies' that exhibit unique gas tails. By analyzing various environments, it aims to enhance understanding of galaxy evolution and the physical processes influencing star formation.
The build up of galaxies is mainly driven by the availability of gas that can cool and form new stars.
Any physical process that is able to alter the gas content of a galaxy has therefore important consequences for its evolution.
