The project focuses on optimizing a neutron source based on a Gas Dynamic Trap for transmuting long-lived nuclear waste. By coupling this source with a sub-critical fission reactor, it aims to enhance the efficiency of waste management in nuclear energy production.
Recently, the idea of coupling a sub-critical fission reactor and a DT-fusion plasma device generating 14 MeV neutrons for the incineration and transmutation of long-lived isotopes of nuclear waste has attracted increasing interest.
