This project explores geophysical turbulence and its effects on energy transfer in fluid dynamics. It aims to develop a quantitative theory for bidirectional energy cascades, utilizing numerical and statistical methods to analyze turbulent structures and their interactions in various spatial and spectral contexts.
Turbulent fluid motions are responsible for closing the energy budget in Earth’s atmosphere and on many astrophysical bodies, dictating their long-term evolution and climate.
However, geophysical turbulence, even in the simplest contexts, remains an open problem.
