This project develops a glacier drainage system model to improve predictions of sea level rise due to ice flow changes in Greenland and Antarctica. The model will be validated using Alpine glaciers and coupled with an ice sheet model to assess the impacts of climate change.
The prediction of future sea level rise due to dynamic changes of the ice flow in Greenland and Antarctica is one of the great outstanding problems of climate science.
One reason why ice sheet models fail to provide this information is their lack of a realistic glacial drainage system model, providing basal boundary conditions.
