The GLEE project focuses on creating sustainable light-emitting diodes by developing water-less phosphors using sugars to enhance the stability of biogenic fluorescent proteins. This innovative approach aims to improve the efficiency and longevity of hybrid white LEDs while reducing reliance on rare materials.
Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have emerged as the dominant artificial lighting technology due to their stability and efficiency.
However, challenges persist with white LEDs, including their reliance on rare-earth materials, and complex/costly recycling processes.
