This project focuses on developing new therapies for diabetic macular edema by studying the mechanisms involved in diabetic retinopathy and corticosteroid regulation. The aim is to enhance treatment specificity and restore vision in affected patients.
Considering the alarming rate of diabetic patients becoming blind after retinal edema formation, and the important risks of ocular complications due to the low specificity of the current glucocorticoid (GC) treatment, it is imperative to bring together all the necessary means for the development of novel therapies with better specificity, efficiency and limited secondary effects.
