GO-DS21 investigates the mechanisms behind obesity and intellectual disabilities in individuals with Down syndrome. The project aims to identify biomarkers and environmental factors contributing to these comorbidities and develop targeted interventions to improve health outcomes.
The aim of the project is to elucidate etiological mechanisms involved in the appearance of obesity, and intellectual disability comorbidities in Down syndrome (DS).
With its incidence of 1 in 1000 births, DS offers a great opportunity to uncover common/novel mechanisms because it is associated with a higher risk to develop several obesity, and intellectual disability.
