This project enhances safety standards for passenger ships by improving the assessment of survival probabilities in damaged conditions. It focuses on developing a new probabilistic damage stability concept that accounts for both collision and grounding accidents, using numerical simulations and model testing.
The new probabilistic damage stability regulations for dry cargo and passenger ships (SOLAS 2009), which entered into force on January 1, 2009, represent a major step forward in achieving an improved safety standard through the rationalization and harmonization of damage stability requirements.
