This project investigates negative thermal expansion (NTE) materials, focusing on their unusual behavior under pressure. It aims to understand the relationship between NTE and pressure-induced transformations, develop new materials with practical applications, and explore their interactions in high-stress environments.
Negative thermal expansion (NTE; volume decrease on heating) is an unusual phenomenon of inherent interest and with important technological applications - e.g. in countering the more usual positive thermal expansion of other materials.
