The GRABEn project analyzes the sediment of ancient cemeteries to uncover socio-cultural and environmental changes over time. By employing various geoarchaeological techniques, it aims to reconstruct burial practices and understand how soil conditions affect the preservation of remains and funerary evidence.

The sediment matrix of ancient cemeteries is a complex archive of socio-cultural and environmental change, an archive which is often overlooked by researchers. GRABEn employs a diverse methodological and theoretical toolkit to reconstruct burial traditions from sites in Greece, Denmark, and Norway.
