GREEN-WAKE aims to enhance airport safety by developing advanced technologies for detecting wake vortices and wind shear. The project focuses on creating a new sensor for real-time hazard detection and a 3D visualization system to improve operational efficiency and passenger safety.
Wake vortex and wind shear are major causes of accidents and injury to passenger and crew of all aircraft types.
There has been little protection and the main way of mitigating accidents has been to have mandatory separation times that affect the operating performance of airports.
