The GREENAVOID project aims to develop a new type of greenhouse plastic that resists degradation from UV radiation and agrochemicals, particularly burning sulfur. This innovation seeks to extend the durability of greenhouse covers, enhancing agricultural productivity and sustainability in hot regions.
Greenhouse cultivation under plastic has allowed converting apparently unproductive lands in modern agriculture exploitations.
Different types of plastic materials such as Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC), Poly Carbonate (PC) and Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) are commonly used for cladding of greenhouse structures.
However, most of plastic polymer films are prone to photo-degradation when exposed to UV radiation (290–400 nm) or even visible radiation (400–700 nm).
