The GUTMATES project studies the interaction between gut microbiota and host health, particularly focusing on octadecanoids and their role in intestinal regeneration. It aims to explore how these metabolites influence healing processes in diseases like inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer.
The microbiota-host crosstalk is crucial for several processes in the gut and its dysregulation is a hallmark of diseases such as colorectal cancer (CRC) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
