This project explores the combination of discrete and continuous variable approaches in quantum information science. By investigating optical hybrid schemes, it aims to leverage entangled optical qubits for developing advanced quantum networks.
In quantum information science and technology, two main encodings of information are traditionally used: a ‘discrete-variable’ (DV) approach, based for instance on single photons, and a ‘continuous-variable’ (CV) one, which relies on continuous degrees of freedom such as amplitude and phase of a light field. A mostly unexplored area combines these two different approaches to create ‘optical hybrid schemes’.
Recently, entanglement between particle-like and wave-like optical qubits, i.e. CV-DV ent…
