This project investigates the existence of spiral galaxies that host double-lobed radio sources, challenging existing galaxy formation models. It aims to understand the relationship between these galaxies and their environments using advanced observational techniques.
Until recently, it was thought that large double-lobed radio sources are always hosted by massive elliptical galaxies in the local Universe and that the merger phenomenon responsible for the elliptical morphology is also responsible for triggering the AGN.
Consequently, the existence of spiral galaxies that host double-lobed radio sources (“spiral DRAGNs”) is inconsistent with leading galaxy formation models.
