This project focuses on the historical and societal impact of neuroimaging techniques. By assessing how these technologies have shaped biomedicine and public understanding, it aims to foster a critical dialogue about their implications and promote scientific literacy.
The development of neuroimaging techniques, such as computed axial tomography (CAT scanning), functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and positron emission tomography (PET), has been one of the major biomedical achievements of the past hundred years.
These techniques allow the in vivo visualisation of the brain and gave new impetus to medicine, neurology, psychiatry, psychology, philosophy, economics and related fields by providing two unprecedented types of insight.
