This project seeks to enhance our understanding of galaxy formation by analyzing the balance between gas acquisition and depletion in galaxies over cosmic time. Utilizing the upgraded Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope, it aims to conduct a comprehensive survey of hydrogen gas in various environments.
Current radio telescopes have imaged the HI in and around a few hundred galaxies in the nearby universe, but to reach out into the universe to the time when the decline in star formation started will require new facilities.
