The project aims to enhance solar energy conversion efficiency using nanostructured thin film photovoltaic systems. It combines experimental and theoretical approaches to develop new materials and device structures that improve the performance of solar cells.
Light harvesting and the conversion of solar energy into other usable forms of energy is currently one of the most challenging topics on the field of renewable energy.
Different possible scenarios exist to achieve this goal, some are based on solar thermal power and others on a variety of pathways for artificial photosynthesis.
Perhaps the most promising approach is based on direct conversion of solar energy into electric current using photovoltaic cells.
