This project explores the evolutionary significance of whole genome duplication in plants, focusing on its impact on meiosis and adaptation. By studying various plant species, it aims to uncover the genetic mechanisms that facilitate successful reproduction despite genomic complexity.
Whole genome duplication (WGD) occurs in all eukaryotic kingdoms and is implicated in organismal complexity, adaptation and speciation. WGD is an especially important force in plant evolution and domestication.
