This project studies the interactions between Neisseria meningitidis and the human host to understand the mechanisms of bacterial colonization and the resulting vascular damage. It aims to identify potential therapeutic targets for meningococcal disease.
Neisseria meningitidis is still the major cause of bacterial meningitis and septicemia worldwide.
The septic shock caused by Neisserial invasive disease is characterized by the presence of skin lesions (petecchial rashes and purpura).
