This project focuses on creating a compact hydrogen generator using polymer electrolyte membrane technology, which can also function as a microfuel cell. It aims to produce sufficient hydrogen for energy supply in wireless devices while offering efficient storage solutions that rival traditional batteries.
The primary objective of the proposal is the development of a chip integrated hydrogen generator based on polymer electrolyte membrane water electrolysis with on-board hydrogen storage and an option for a bi-functional operation (as a unitized regenerative microfuel cell).
The output of the generated hydrogen should be high enough to feed up to 50 mW.cm-2 microfuel cell at continuous operation, while enabling hydrogen storage capable to compete the conventional secondary batteries.
