This project investigates the hygiene hypothesis, which suggests that infections may protect against allergic and autoimmune diseases. It combines epidemiological studies with experimental models to explore the relationship between infections and atopic conditions, aiming to identify protective mechanisms.
The hygiene hypothesis postulating the paradoxical protective role of infections on immune-mediateddiseases including atopy (i.e. atopic dermatitis, rhinitis, asthma) and more recently autoimmune diseases hasbeen the matter of extensive investigation.
