This project addresses the challenge of valvular heart disease by developing a novel bioreactor for testing tissue-engineered heart valves using advanced magnetic resonance imaging. The goal is to create heart valves that can grow and self-repair, reducing the need for lifelong anticoagulant therapy in patients.
Given the escalating global burden of valvular heart disease and the pressing need for living heart valve replacements, I decided to focus my research on this healthcare challenge by acquiring new skills through advanced training and international interdisciplinary collaborations.
