This project aims to enhance treatment for osteoarthritis by developing a biodegradable drug delivery system for a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. The goal is to improve the efficacy of intra-articular injections and reduce side effects associated with oral medication.
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common chronic condition of the joints and is predicted to become the fourth largest cause of disability in the world by 2020.
Its complete mechanism is yet to be deciphered.
Though it is not curable, several medications are prescribed to manage the symptomatic OA, of which the oral and topical medications have shortcomings and the better option is the intra-articular (IA) delivery of free corticosteroids and hyaluronic acid.
