This project develops a novel intracellular delivery system for proteins and nucleic acids in stem cell therapy. It aims to commercialize a method that enhances the expansion of patient-derived cells for regenerative medicine.
Under an ERC Advanced Grant, and subsequent PoC grant, Professor Shakesheff's team have invented a new intracellular delivery system that overcomes a problem in drug delivery in stem cell culture as well as regenerative medicine and other therapeutic approaches.
The system, called GAG-binding enhanced transduction (GET), enables intracellular delivery of proteins, nucleic acids and particles into cells that resist other non-viral strategies.
