This project investigates the early sensorimotor development of preterm infants by measuring their full body movements and motor commands. It aims to identify movement patterns during the critical weeks after birth, potentially informing clinical practices to prevent long-term disabilities.
The first weeks and months after birth are critical for early sensorimotor development, with brain injury at this time often resulting in the later development of long-term neurodisabilities such as cerebral palsy.
Despite this, the evolution of control patterns in this phase of life has never been systematically studied, due to the technical difficulties associated with accurately measuring infant movements and motor commands.
