This project analyzes the historical integration of European and global markets from the early modern period to today, focusing on its impacts on welfare and institutions. It will create a comprehensive online database of price data for scholarly use and examine political responses to market integration.
The proposal aims at mapping the long-run process of integration of the European and world markets, from the early modern period to present, and at assessing its effects on the welfare and on institutions.
To this aim it will collect a comprehensive data-base on prices, which will then be made available on-line to scholars.
These data will be then used to estimate the gains from integration (or losses from disintegration).
