This project investigates innate behaviors in mammals, focusing on genetic causes of disorders like obesity and anxiety. By studying both human and mouse models, it aims to understand the neural mechanisms behind these behaviors and how external factors influence them.
Instinctive or innate behaviours such as eating, social interaction, mating, parental care, defence and aggression, are fundamental for survival and reproduction.
Innate behaviours do not need to be learned, are encoded by developmentally hard-wired subcortical circuits and are conserved across mammalian species.
