This project focuses on understanding how materials fail by studying micromechanical mechanisms in solids. It aims to advance the theory of fracture in heterogeneous materials, which exhibit unique mechanical properties, to better predict damage progression and crack propagation in complex materials.
The modelling of micromechanical mechanisms occurring during damage of solids is fundamental for the understanding of how materials fail and consequently structures collapse.
